Body Language: It Can Make Or Break Your Credibility
Body Language Speaks All The Time:
Your body language starts speaking on your behalf the moment you go anywhere. Even if you are not using any words, how you stand, how you sit, and how you use your hands keeps on communicating to others about what is going on in your mind. So, if you do not understand about body language clearly, sometimes you may find that your body language is not matching with your intentions and people are getting the wrong message. When your body language contradicts with your intentions, it may cause a great loss for you because you may lose your credibility.
How To Maintain Credibility:
So, what should we do to maintain our credibility? We should learn a little more about body language, to be more credible and more professional in the eyes of others. Whenever you go to your client for any type of business, make your entrance as confident as possible. How could you do this? You should start talking about the business immediately after entering the premises of the client. Poring over the papers or rummaging through the briefcase will send a negative impression. Even if you need to wait for a while, the best way is to go through any magazine instead.
Some More Important Tips Regarding Body language:
Another important tip regarding body language is that you should shake hands warmly and firmly. Then comes choosing the chair to sit. You should not indicate that you will sit only when the other person asks you to. Instead, choose the most appropriate chair and sit immediately. However, do not make the mistake of sitting too near or too far from the client. How much distance you should keep depends on the personality of the client. An introvert will want to sit at more distance then an extrovert one. However, the ideal distance is between 20 to 50 inches. You may lean forward closer to the client when trying to put stress on any particular point.
Importance Of Eye Contact And Your Voice:
Eye contact is another important aspect of the body language. Eye contact and a smile on the face send the message that you are honest, sincere, and open. A sketchy eye contact and looking here and there again and again send the message that you are not having enough confidence in yourself. However, also avoid constant staring at the other person, since he may not feel comfortable. Always try to speak in your normal voice. If your voice is filled with enthusiasm, it will immediately grab the attention of the client.
